RAWALPINDI, 6 September 2026 (Kamran Raja): Security forces have killed 21 militants during separate intelligence-based operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Sunday. According to the military’s media wing, 10 militants were killed in North Waziristan during a successful operation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The operation followed an earlier engagement conducted during the night of August 31 and September 1, in which 15 militants attempting to infiltrate Pakistan were killed. The ISPR said the latest action brought the total number of militants killed while attempting to cross into Pakistan to 25. In another encounter in North Waziristan, security forces detected the movement of another group of militants near the border and effectively engaged them, killing seven militants. Four more militants were killed in two separate clashes in Kohat and Dera Ismail Khan, according to the ISPR. The military’s media wing said the repeated incidents along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border reinforced Pakistan’s position that the Afghan Taliban authorities had failed to prevent militant organisations from using Afghan soil for cross-border terrorism. The ISPR further said the Afghan Taliban authorities had failed to ensure effective border management and fulfil their international counterterrorism obligations. The ISPR reaffirmed that Pakistan’s security forces remained fully committed to defending the country’s borders. Clearance operations were continuing to eliminate militants operating with alleged Indian backing in the area. The military’s media wing said the counterterrorism campaign by security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue under the Azm-e-Istehkam framework approved by the National Action Plan’s Central Apex Committee. The campaign, it added, would continue with full force to eliminate terrorism backed and supported by foreign elements from the country.
