27 May 2025(Kamran Raja): Saudi authorities have denied reports circulating about plans to allow the sale of alcohol in Saudi Arabia. In which there was a claim that the Islamic capital is going to lift its 73-year ban on alcohol. It should be noted that alcohol is forbidden for Muslims under Islamic law.
A report was published by some international media, which claimed that Saudi authorities plan to allow limited sales of alcohol in preparation for hosting the 2034 football World Cup. However, the report did not mention any reliable source. The news became the subject of intense online debate in Saudi Arabia, where the country’s king, who himself holds the title of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, is also the custodian of Islam’s holiest sites, Mecca and Medina.
It should be noted that Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has implemented several social reforms in the country in recent years, including lifting the ban on women driving, relaxing the separation of men and women in public places, and reducing the powers of the religious police.
However, the sale or open consumption of alcohol was not allowed. This ban remains in place, and the sale of alcohol is completely prohibited and a punishable offense.
