Russian Missile and Drone Attacks Kill at Least Eight in Ukraine

Kyiv, 7 October, 2026 (Nosheen): Russia launched a major barrage of drones and missiles against Ukraine on Wednesday, killing at least eight people and damaging residential buildings, industrial facilities and critical infrastructure, Ukrainian officials said. Two people were killed in the capital Kyiv, four in the northern city of Pryluky and two in the central Poltava region, authorities said. The Ukrainian Air Force said Russia launched 130 drones, 48 cruise missiles and ballistic missiles during the overnight attacks, while air defence units intercepted or destroyed 161 targets. Kyiv and Poltava in central Ukraine, Dnipropetrovsk in the southeast and Kharkiv in the northeast were among the main areas targeted. Ukraine’s parliamentary commissioner for human rights Dmytro Lubinets described the attacks as another night of terror, saying people were forced to continue their daily lives despite the strikes. Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces had carried out a “massive strike” on military-industrial facilities in Kyiv and other Ukrainian regions using high-precision land-, sea- and air-launched weapons as well as drones. It said the targets included facilities linked to Ukrainian defence company Fire Point, which it accused of manufacturing and storing Flamingo cruise missiles and medium- and long-range drones. In the northern Chernihiv region, a Russian missile struck a five-storey residential building in Pryluky, killing at least four people and injuring around 20 others, according to local authorities. Rescue teams searched the rubble for survivors and warned that additional people could remain trapped. In Kyiv, residents took shelter in underground metro stations as air-raid warnings were issued and explosions were heard across the capital. Ukrainian officials said ballistic missiles were also used in the attack on Kyiv. Ukraine has repeatedly appealed for additional air-defence systems amid what officials describe as a critical shortage of air-defence capabilities. Overnight strikes also damaged an industrial facility in Dnipro, transport infrastructure in Zaporizhzhia and apartment buildings in Kremenchuk, regional authorities said.
