Russian Attack Kills Five in Ukraine’s Kharkiv, Damages Residential Buildings

Kharkiv, October 6, 2026 (Kamran Raja): Russian bombs struck residential areas of Ukraine’s northeastern city of Kharkiv on Monday, killing five people and injuring more than 50, while severely damaging apartment buildings, officials said. Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov said three bombs hit different parts of the city, injuring 53 people, including three children, with 30 victims receiving treatment in hospitals and three reported to be in serious condition. Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said emergency workers recovered two bodies from the rubble. The strikes badly damaged the facades and balconies of residential buildings and smashed apartments inside. Rescue workers evacuated stunned residents from damaged buildings, carefully guiding them through piles of debris. Residents described scenes of panic following the attack, while officials said warehouses were also damaged. One resident was reportedly found dead in his bed, while another body was discovered on the ground covered with a blanket. Kharkiv, located around 30 kilometers from the Russian border, is Ukraine’s second-largest city and has faced sustained Russian attacks since the war began in February 2022, suffering extensive damage.
