MOSCOW, 10 October, 2026 (Nosheen): Russian President Vladimir Putin told US President Donald Trump during a telephone conversation on Friday that Ukraine’s drone attacks had undermined the possibility of an immediate resumption of trilateral peace talks, the Kremlin said. Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov said Kyiv’s attacks on Moscow, other cities and polling stations during last month’s Russian parliamentary elections had disrupted prospects for an early return to negotiations involving the United States, Russia and Ukraine. He said Moscow had been prepared to resume talks with Kyiv after the elections, but the attacks had put the peace process in jeopardy. Ushakov added that Russia would now consider when negotiations could resume. US President Donald Trump has been seeking a peace agreement to end the war in Ukraine, which began with Russia’s invasion in February 2022. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Thursday that the conflict had reached a dangerous stalemate and that Washington would continue efforts to secure a settlement. The Kremlin also said Putin and Trump discussed major economic initiatives during their call, including possible supplies of Russian fuel. Trump said earlier on Friday that Russia had agreed to immediately supply diesel to US and global markets in an effort to bring down fuel prices ahead of next month’s US midterm elections. However, analysts said the proposed supplies were unlikely to have a significant impact on prices. The phone conversation highlighted continuing diplomatic efforts to address the Ukraine conflict, although the timing of any renewed trilateral negotiations remains uncertain.
