Punjab Approves Abolition of 101 Posts Across Administrative Departments

Lahore, 13 August 2026 (Nosheen): The Punjab government has approved the abolition of 101 posts across various provincial administrative departments, including the South Punjab Secretariat, as part of efforts to reduce administrative expenditure and restructure government offices.Following the approval, the Additional Chief Secretary Punjab issued a formal notification for abolishing the posts in accordance with a decision taken by the Finance Department on July 31, 2026.Among Punjab’s major administrative departments, the School Education Department has the highest number of abolished posts, with six positions removed. The Finance, Health and Population, Home, and Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education departments have each had five posts abolished.Three Section Officer posts have been abolished at the Punjab Chief Minister’s Office, while three posts have also been removed from the Local Government and Community Development Department.

The Agriculture, Communications and Works, Energy, Excise, Food Safety, Higher Education and Irrigation departments have each had two posts abolished. Two posts each have also been removed from the Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Department and the Planning and Development Board.The Environment Protection, Industries, Information and Culture, Literacy, Livestock, Mines and Minerals, Public Prosecution, Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Maal, and Women Development departments have each had one post abolished.The move is aimed at reducing the government’s administrative expenditure and streamlining the functioning of provincial departments.
