Lahore, August 3, 2026 (Nosheen): The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a flood alert, warning of possible urban flooding and landslides as the fourth spell of monsoon rains is expected to continue until August 5. According to a PDMA spokesperson, water flows in most rivers across Punjab remain within the normal range. However, low-level flooding has been recorded at Kalabagh on the Indus River and at Nallah Palkhu in Wazirabad. The spokesperson said that water levels in the Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers remain normal, while conditions in the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan are also stable.
At Kalabagh, inflow in the Indus River has been recorded at 273,000 cusecs, with an outflow of 266,000 cusecs. Meanwhile, water flow at Nallah Palkhu in Wazirabad has reached 3,000 cusecs, resulting in low-level flooding. Director General PDMA, Saif Anwar Jappa, said that forecast rainfall in the upper catchment areas could increase water flows in the eastern rivers and adjoining streams over the coming days. He warned that Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Multan remain vulnerable to urban flooding, while Murree, Galliyat, and other hilly areas face the risk of landslides due to continued rainfall. The DG PDMA advised residents living in riverbeds and low-lying areas to relocate to safer places immediately and urged the public to strictly follow safety instructions issued by the district administration to minimize risks during the ongoing monsoon spell.
