ISLAMABAD, 4 October, 2026 (Nosheen): Pakistan’s space programme is making significant progress, with the Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) planning to land the country’s first lunar rover, Jinnah-1, on the Moon in 2028. SUPARCO Chairman Yusuf Khan, speaking at an event marking World Space Week, said Pakistan is increasingly strengthening its space capabilities and relying on its own satellite technology for various national needs. He said Pakistan launched the E-1 satellite in January 2025, followed by two more satellites in July and October 2025. According to him, Pakistan currently has six Earth-observation satellites supporting agriculture, urban planning, disaster management and other sectors. He also highlighted the growing use of satellite technology to expand internet and television coverage across the country. Khan said the country’s progress in space technology reflects Pakistan’s expanding use of space-based systems for communication and practical applications on Earth, while the planned Jinnah-1 lunar mission marks another step forward in Pakistan’s space programme.
