ISLAMABAD, August 9, 2026(Nosheen): A team of Pakistani students has won three medals at the 3rd International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO-2026) held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, marking another significant achievement for Pakistan’s young scientific talent.The international competition, held from August 2 to 8, brought together around 120 students and experts from 19 countries. The Olympiad is aimed at promoting scientific excellence and international cooperation in nuclear science and technology among secondary-school students.According to the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), Team Pakistan won one gold and two silver medals during the week-long competition. Pakistani student Muhammad Ali, representing Government College University (GCU), Lahore, secured the gold medal. Muhammad Usman of F.G. Sir Syed College, Rawalpindi, and Seerat Fatima Bhatti of Nixor College, Karachi, won silver medals.

Syed Shuja Haider of Sundar STEM School, Lahore, also represented Pakistan in the international competition.The Pakistani team was selected and trained by the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) under the auspices of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC). The students were selected through the Pakistan Nuclear Science Olympiad (PANSO), a PAEC initiative designed to identify, develop and encourage young scientific talent for participation in international nuclear science competitions. Following their selection, the students received specialized training and guidance from PIEAS faculty members and experts, preparing them for the academic and competitive requirements of the international Olympiad. The PAEC said the outstanding performance reflects Pakistan’s continued commitment to developing young scientific talent and encouraging students to pursue education and professional careers in nuclear science and technology.Pakistan has also been selected to host the 4th International Nuclear Science Olympiad in 2027, providing the country with an opportunity to further promote scientific collaboration and showcase its young talent on the international stage.
