Islamabad, August 5, 2026 (Kamran Raja): Pakistan and Iran have concluded the 10th Session of the Pakistan-Iran Joint Trade Committee with a renewed commitment to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation and achieve the shared goal of increasing annual trade volume to US$10 billion. The concluding session was co-chaired by Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade, Dr. Mohammad Atabak.  At the end of the two-day meeting, both ministers signed the Agreed Minutes, reflecting the key understandings and decisions reached during the deliberations.The two sides welcomed the progress made on the proposed Pakistan-Iran Free Trade Agreement (FTA), particularly discussions on Rules of Origin, tariff reduction modalities, and product lists, describing them as important steps towards expanding bilateral trade. The committee also agreed to enhance barter trade, strengthen business-to-business (B2B) linkages, promote industrial cooperation and investment, encourage greater private-sector participation, and operationalize joint border markets.

Both countries further agreed to improve trade facilitation, customs coordination, transport, logistics, and border infrastructure to ensure the smooth movement of commercial goods, especially perishable items, across the shared border. Speaking on the occasion, Federal Minister Jam Kamal Khan said the agreed measures would help transform the longstanding and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Iran into a stronger and more dynamic economic partnership. Dr. Mohammad Atabak reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to removing trade barriers and further expanding bilateral economic and commercial cooperation with Pakistan. The two ministers emphasized the importance of sustained coordination and the timely implementation of the agreed decisions ahead of the next session of the Pakistan-Iran Joint Trade Committee. The session concluded with an exchange of souvenirs and a reaffirmation of the longstanding friendship and shared commitment to deeper economic engagement between Pakistan and Iran.
