
Islamabad, March 31, 2026(Kamran Raja): Pakistan and China have jointly unveiled a comprehensive five-point initiative aimed at restoring peace, stability, and security in the Gulf and Middle East region, amid escalating tensions and humanitarian concerns.
The initiative was announced following a high-level meeting in Beijing between Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China, and Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed the evolving regional situation and emphasized the urgent need for de-escalation, dialogue, and adherence to international law.
Key Elements of the Five-Point Initiative
1. Immediate Cessation of Hostilities
China and Pakistan called for an immediate ceasefire and urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint to prevent further escalation. They stressed the importance of ensuring unhindered humanitarian assistance to all affected populations.
2. Early Resumption of Dialogue and Diplomacy
Both countries underscored that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to resolving conflicts. They emphasized respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national independence of Iran and Gulf states, while encouraging all parties to initiate peace talks and refrain from the use or threat of force.
3. Protection of Civilians and Non-Military Infrastructure
Reaffirming the principles of International Humanitarian Law, the two sides called for an immediate halt to attacks on civilians and non-military targets. They highlighted the need to safeguard critical infrastructure, including energy facilities, desalination plants, power installations, and peaceful nuclear sites.
4. Ensuring Security of Maritime Routes
Recognizing the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, both countries urged all stakeholders to ensure the safety of vessels and crew. They called for the prompt restoration of normal maritime traffic and secure passage for commercial shipping.
5. Upholding the United Nations Charter
Pakistan and China emphasized the primacy of the United Nations and called for strengthened multilateral efforts. They advocated for the development of a comprehensive peace framework grounded in international law and the principles of the UN Charter to achieve lasting regional stability.

Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to promoting peace, stability, and cooperation in the Gulf and Middle East. They reiterated their readiness to work with the international community to advance diplomatic solutions and support sustainable peace initiatives.
