Pakistan–China Agree on Quarterly Security Working Group & Annual Interior Ministers’ Meeting

Beijing, 7 January 2026(Kamran Raja):- Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi held an important meeting today in Beijing with Chinese Interior Minister Wang Xiaohong. Upon arrival at the Ministry of Public Security Headquarters, Minister Wang Xiaohong welcomed Minister Naqvi and his delegation. ‎During the three-and-a-half-hour long meeting, both sides discussed bilateral relations and joint counter-terrorism initiatives. They held in-depth discussions on counter-terrorism cooperation, police training exchange programmes and expanding collaboration in mutual areas of interest. ‎Both sides agreed that the Joint Working Group will meet every three months, while the Interior Ministers will meet once a year. The two Interior Ministers emphasised the need for improved coordination to enhance bilateral cooperation.

The Chinese Interior Minister expressed satisfaction with the security measures taken for Chinese citizens and projects in Pakistan and thanked Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his team. He praised Pakistan’s efforts in counter-terrorism and internal security and said that China highly values Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism. ‎Both leaders agreed to further strengthen rapid response mechanisms against terrorism and crime and also agreed to expand the scope of police training exchange programmes. Matters pertaining to Islamabad and Beijing sister-city cooperation were also discussed. Both Ministers agreed on a joint strategy to enhance the training and professional capacity of police and security personnel. ‎Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi emphasised ensuring exchange of experience and information between the security institutions of both countries through training. He also briefed the Chinese side on the security arrangements undertaken for Chinese nationals and projects. ‎Mohsin Naqvi said that the security of Chinese nationals and joint development projects is a top priority. Pakistan has taken strong measures at all levels for the security of Chinese nationals and is establishing a special protection unit in Islamabad. He welcomed Chinese assistance in combating cybercrimes and said Pakistan wants to benefit from the expertise of Chinese institutions to strengthen the National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency.
‎Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that AI-based Chinese technologies can greatly help Pakistan in counter-terrorism and security challenges. Pakistan and China share an unbreakable partnership that no one can undermine. He said Pakistan is committed to expanding sustainable cooperation to address security challenges and protect shared interests.
‎Minister Naqvi invited the Chinese Interior Minister to visit Pakistan. ‎He also conveyed best wishes from President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif for the Chinese President and Prime Minister. ‎The Chinese Interior Minister invited Mohsin Naqvi to participate in the Global Security Cooperation Forum scheduled in China in September. He said Pakistan and China are strategic partners and expressed great pleasure in welcoming Pakistan’s Interior Minister at the start of 2026. China is ready to enhance cooperation with Pakistan at all levels.
‎A luncheon was hosted in honour of Minister Mohsin Naqvi and the delegation. ‎Vice Ministers Su Ditong and Yu Xiuhua, Beijing Deputy Mayor and Director General of the Beijing Public Security Bureau Qin Yuanbiao, Director General of the Ministry’s General Office Guo Kan, DG Counter-Terrorism Gao Qiu, and DG International Cooperation Wang Yong were also present. ‎Federal Interior Secretary Khurram Agha, Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi, DG National Police Academy Muhammad Idrees, DG National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency Syed Khurram Ali, Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa, and IG Islamabad Police Ali Nasir Rizvi also attended the meeting.
