ISLAMABAD, 29 September, 2026 (Nosheen): Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan has reportedly approached the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), seeking compliance with the Lahore High Court’s directions and the return of his mobile phone, according to a report by ESPNcricinfo. Rizwan has also reportedly requested the agency to provide written details regarding the nature of the investigation being conducted against him. According to the report, Rizwan sent a letter to the NCCIA nearly two weeks after the Lahore High Court’s ruling, stating that he had not been informed about the specific nature of the inquiry. He asked the agency to clarify the matter under investigation and inform him about when he is required to appear before the authorities.The Pakistan batter also pointed out that no formal contact had reportedly been made with him to facilitate compliance with the court’s directions. The NCCIA took possession of Rizwan’s mobile phone on August 31 in England, a day after Pakistan’s Test defeat against England at Lord’s. Rizwan was reportedly informed at the time that the device would be returned within three hours.
However, the mobile phone has remained in the agency’s possession for several weeks. Rizwan had also provided the password to the device, with his letter reportedly stating that his voluntary cooperation demonstrated his willingness to assist with the investigation.The Lahore High Court had earlier dismissed Rizwan’s petition challenging the NCCIA’s jurisdiction over the matter. While directing the cricketer to cooperate with the proceedings, the court also instructed the agency not to harass him or cause unnecessary inconvenience. The court further allowed Rizwan to approach a court with relevant jurisdiction for the recovery of items, including his mobile phone, that had not been returned. According to the reported contents of Rizwan’s letter, the cricketer maintains that he remains willing to cooperate with the investigation but wants the NCCIA to clearly communicate the allegations or incident being investigated and proceed in accordance with the Lahore High Court’s directions. The development follows reports citing NCCIA sources claiming that the agency had contacted Rizwan several times and sought his cooperation but had not received a positive response despite repeated attempts. Rizwan’s latest correspondence reportedly disputes that position, with sources close to the Pakistan batter maintaining that he is prepared to cooperate once the agency provides clarity regarding the investigation and addresses the issue of his mobile phone.
