The meeting of the Political Consul of the British High Commission Miss Zoe Ware with the Caretaker Federal Minister of Information Murtaza Solangi. In the meeting, discussions were held on Pak-UK relations, hate speech, misinformation, elimination of disinformation, promotion of cooperation in media sectors and Safe Digital Environment Program of UNDP.
Murtaza Solangi said Pakistan values relations with Britain. We want to promote cooperation in media sectors with Britain. UNDP’s Safe Digital Environment program will help counter misinformation and hateful narratives. The project will further improve the knowledge, capacity and skills of key government agencies and officials in identifying false and hateful narratives in the online space. Misinformation, disinformation and fake news is a problem of the whole world, it needs to be controlled. The biggest challenge on social media is fake news. Help will be drawn from the UK’s Modern Media Curriculum to provide training to journalists. Information Service Academy will play an important role in this regard. Awareness sessions on hate speech and misinformation will be organized at the Information Service Academy.
Cooperation in the fields of film and drama was also discussed in the meeting. Film and drama play an important role in highlighting the culture and positive identity of any country. The Information Minister also informed the British Political Consul about the activities related to the elections in the country.
Elections will be held on time, election date will be announced by Election Commission. The British Political Consul assured his full support for the development of bilateral relations between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
