CAIRO, 26 August, 2026(Kamran Raja) — Iran has resumed talks with neighboring Oman on managing traffic through the Strait of Hormuz as tensions with the United States continue to put pressure on Tehran, Iranian officials said. Iran and Oman have held intermittent discussions for several weeks over arrangements to regulate shipping through the strategic waterway, a vital global energy route that handled around one-fifth of worldwide oil and liquefied natural gas shipments before the war began in February. The talks come as Iran faces growing economic pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump amid the broader conflict. A temporary corridor through the Strait of Hormuz could help facilitate the movement of commercial vessels and reduce risks to international energy supplies. The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and Oman, is one of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints. Any prolonged disruption to traffic through the waterway could have significant consequences for global oil and gas markets. Separately, the U.S. Secret Service said on Tuesday that it was aware of a video broadcast by Iranian state television discussing an alleged potential plot to assassinate U.S. President Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron Trump. The approximately three-minute broadcast discussed a purported plan targeting Barron Trump, 20, and claimed that he was being monitored. It also alleged that a $10 million bounty had been offered for his killing.The allegations have not been independently verified. The reported broadcast adds another layer of tension between Washington and Tehran as both sides remain locked in a wider confrontation.
