
16 February 2026(News Desk): Federal Minister for Interior and Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, held a meeting with Sri Lanka’s Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Sunil Kumara Gamage, to discuss matters of mutual interest, with a particular focus on enhancing cooperation in sports, especially cricket. During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on promoting greater collaboration between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the field of sports. It was agreed to strengthen institutional linkages with the Sri Lankan Ministry of Sports and to expand bilateral cooperation for the development and promotion of cricket as well as other sports.
The two leaders emphasized that sports diplomacy can play a vital role in further strengthening the longstanding and friendly relations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Speaking on the occasion, Mohsin Naqvi noted that relations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka are gaining renewed warmth and momentum. He expressed confidence that cooperation in cricket and other sports would further solidify ties between the two countries. The Interior Minister also appreciated the excellent arrangements made during the ICC T20 World Cup and thanked the Sri Lankan authorities for their hospitality. “We received immense warmth and affection in Sri Lanka. I sincerely thank you for the outstanding hospitality,” he said.
Mohsin Naqvi extended an invitation to the Sri Lankan Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs to visit Pakistan to further strengthen bilateral engagement in the sports sector. Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Major General (Retd.) Faheem-ul-Aziz; Advisor to the PCB Chairman Aamir Mir; PCB Chief Operating Officer Sameer Ahmad; and Chief Executive Officer of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Salman Naseer, were also present at the meeting.
