IIUI Clarifies Facts Regarding Vice Presidents’ Selection Process

ISLAMABAD, 19 August, 2026 (Ghufran): The International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) has taken serious notice of reports published by certain sections of the press regarding the selection and appointment process of the University’s Vice Presidents, stating that some of the claims present an incomplete and distorted picture of the University’s prescribed procedure and the proceedings before the Islamabad High Court. The University clarified that the entire selection process for the Vice Presidents was conducted fairly and transparently in accordance with the applicable provisions of the IIUI Ordinance-1985 and the prescribed procedure, which was duly approved by the competent forum, the Board of Governors.IIUI further clarified that no adverse order or judgment has been issued against the University by the Islamabad High Court regarding the appointments in question, and that the official court notice has not yet been received by the University. The University stated that the issuance of a notice or seeking clarification on the first date of hearing is part of the normal judicial process; however, it was portrayed as a judicial finding of illegality or procedural irregularity against the University and its administration.

According to IIUI, the matter has also been presented in some reports as an attempt by the University’s former Legal Advisor and his associates to defame the institution. The University stated that the former Legal Advisor was removed pursuant to the directives of the Supreme Court in Constitution Petition No. 7 of 2024 and has continued to make allegations against the University following his removal. The University expressed concern that this significant background was not adequately reflected in the reports currently being circulated. It also stated that the official spokesperson of IIUI was not contacted before publication of the original report for verification, clarification or the University’s version of the matter, which, according to the University, is contrary to the basic principles of accuracy, balance and responsible journalism. The International Islamic University Islamabad reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, institutional integrity and the legal process. The University also stated that it reserves all its legal rights, including the right to take action under defamation laws, seek damages and pursue other appropriate legal measures against elements allegedly attempting to defame the institution for personal interests.
