Houthis Claim New Attacks on Saudi Arabia Amid Escalating Regional Conflict

Cairo, 7 October, 2026 (Ghufran): Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen claimed new attacks on airports and military facilities in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, as the kingdom faces growing involvement in the latest regional conflict. Houthi military spokesperson Brigadier General Yahya Saree said the group launched ballistic missiles and drones targeting King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, while the Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted a ballistic missile north of the capital. Flights at the airport were briefly disrupted. The Houthis also claimed attacks on Abha airport, an air base in Khamis Mushait and military bases in Najran and Asir. Saudi Arabia, the world’s leading oil exporter, has faced a series of attacks targeting oil and military facilities in recent days, prompting the Saudi-led coalition and allied Yemeni forces to launch a major ground and air offensive against the Houthis. Fighting has intensified around strategic areas near Yemen’s Red Sea coast and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a key international shipping route through which a significant share of global trade passes. The Houthis have also claimed responsibility for a missile attack targeting Aden airport in Yemen, with local authorities reporting that two missiles struck near the airport without causing casualties. The latest escalation has revived Yemen’s civil war following a four-year ceasefire, with the United Nations reporting nearly 1,000 deaths and more than 180,000 people displaced in the recent fighting. The worsening conflict has also raised concerns over humanitarian conditions, including increasing cholera and malnutrition cases and shortages of medical supplies.
