KARACHI, 07 September, 2026 (Ghufran): A major fire broke out at an old clothes factory in Karachi’s Landhi Export Processing Zone (EPZ), leaving two men and a woman in critical condition due to smoke inhalation. Fire brigade officials classified the blaze as a third-degree fire and called for additional firefighting resources. Eleven Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) fire tenders, two water tankers and a snorkel are currently engaged in efforts to bring the fire under control. According to officials, the fire initially erupted on the ground floor before spreading to the two upper floors, while intense smoke forced firefighters to conduct operations from outside the building. A security guard said factory workers evacuated the premises after smoke began emerging, while SSP Malir confirmed that no loss of life had been reported so far and all workers were evacuated safely. A woman whose condition deteriorated due to smoke inhalation was shifted to Jinnah Hospital through a Chhipa ambulance. EPZ security authorities also took precautionary measures and prevented employees of other companies from entering the affected premises. Sindh Rangers personnel reached the site and joined fire brigade and rescue teams in firefighting, relief and rescue operations. A heavy contingent of Rangers was deployed around the building to maintain traffic flow and ensure public safety. Rangers officials said protecting human lives and preventing the fire from spreading were the top priorities. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and directed the authorities to ensure the safety of people at the factory. He also ordered the relevant departments to utilize all available resources to control the blaze and sought a report on the situation from the Karachi commissioner and concerned administration.
