SACRAMENTO, 13 August, 2026 (Kamran Raja): The California State Senate has unanimously passed a historic resolution celebrating the enduring relationship between Pakistan and the United States and recognising the significant contributions of the Pakistani-American community to California’s economy, culture and social fabric.Presented by Senator Melissa Hurtado, the resolution highlighted the pivotal role played by Pakistani-Americans in California and commended their achievements across diverse fields. It also urged Californians to join in celebrating the longstanding friendship and relations between Pakistan and the United States.The Council of Pakistan, led by Dr. Imran Sharief, played an important role in efforts to secure passage of the resolution.
Expressing his appreciation, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, praised Senator Hurtado for her leadership and support. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening people-to-people ties and building on the current positive trajectory of Pakistan-US bilateral relations.The California State Assembly also adopted a resolution aimed at promoting relations between Pakistan and the State of California.The Assembly resolution recognised the contributions of Pakistani-American businesses and investors and their role in advancing economic cooperation between Pakistan and California.The development is being seen as an important step towards strengthening bilateral, economic, cultural and people-to-people ties between Pakistan and California, while further highlighting the valuable role of the Pakistani-American community in promoting closer relations between the two countries.
