Peshawar, 31 July 2025(Ghufran): The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in collaboration with the British Council and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), has officially launched ILMpact, a transformative education programme aimed at reaching more than 80,000 marginalised children across the province.
ILMpact is designed to tackle long-standing educational inequalities in some of the most underserved regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The programme will prioritise access to quality education for girls, out-of-school children, minorities, and children with disabilities—groups that have traditionally faced significant barriers due to poverty, insufficient infrastructure, and deep-rooted social and cultural challenges.
Key components of the programme include:
Strengthening early childhood education
Training and capacity-building for teachers
Promoting gender equity and inclusive education practices
Reintegration of out-of-school children through community engagement and support
Speaking at the launch, James Hampson, Country Director of the British Council in Pakistan, said:
“ILMpact is laying the foundations for a future where every child, regardless of their background, has the chance to learn, grow, and succeed. This programme, funded by the FCDO and delivered in close partnership with the KP Government, is a significant step towards strengthening foundational learning and reshaping the education landscape across the province.”
Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, reiterated the provincial government’s commitment, stating:
“We in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have always believed that education is the cornerstone for the development of our people. The ILMpact programme reflects our unwavering commitment to building a future where every child—regardless of geography, gender, or socio-economic background—is learning and thriving in school.”
The launch of ILMpact marks a major milestone in efforts to bridge educational gaps in Pakistan. With the joint support of the KP Government, the British Council, FCDO, and civil society partners, the programme aims to create lasting, systemic change by focusing on foundational learning, equity, and inclusion.
ILMpact also offers a scalable and replicable model for other provinces, demonstrating how collaborative, child-centered approaches can unlock the full potential of every learner—no matter their background or circumstances.
