An important meeting regarding the promotion of information technology sector under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif

Prime Minister directive to form a standing committee to promote coordination between the government and the IT industry and also to solve the problems of the IT industry,

Prime Minister’s assurance of immediate resolution of IT industry issues, directing the concerned authorities to take effective measures in this regard. Prime Minister’s encouragement to the IT industry to bring its export earnings to Pakistan, Pakistan has a lot of potential in the field of information technology which needs to be fully exploited. Practical steps should be taken on priority basis to increase IT exports from 2.6 billion US dollars to 15 billion US dollars in the next three years. Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif presided over a review meeting regarding the promotion of the IT sector and directed to form a standing committee to promote coordination between the government and the IT industry and to solve the problems of the IT industry.  Representatives of the IT industry, State Bank of Pakistan, Federal Ministry of Finance and Revenue, Federal Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom and other related institutions will be included. Talking to the participants of the meeting, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan has a lot of potential in the field of information technology, which needs to be fully exploited.  He said that Pakistani entrepreneurs have played a very important role in the promotion and development of the IT sector.  He further said that the exports of Pakistan’s IT sectors are very less compared to the talent and capacity of the IT sector in Pakistan.  The Prime Minister directed that practical steps should be taken on a priority basis to increase IT exports from 2.6 billion US dollars to 15 billion US dollars in the next three years.  He will be appreciated at the government level if he played a role.

The representatives of the IT industry informed the meeting about their operational problems and presented their suggestions regarding the solution of these problems.  The Prime Minister encouraged the IT industry to bring its export earnings to Pakistan and assured the immediate solution to the problems of the IT industry and directed the State Bank of Pakistan and the Federal Board of Revenue and other relevant authorities to take effective measures in this regard. The representatives of the IT industry assured that the IT industry stands with the government to play its role in the country’s economy. The Prime Minister directed that the Higher Education Commission, universities and training institutes should work on priority basis to increase the number of IT professionals from 6 lakh to 1.5 lakh in the country. In the meeting, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecom Aminul Haque, Adviser to Prime Minister Ahad Cheema, Special Assistants to Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, Jahanzeb Khan, Syed Fahad Hussain, Shaza Fatima, senior government officials and IT industry representatives of Pakistan.  Representatives attended.
