A delegation from the Senate of Pakistan led by Leader of the House is visiting Geneva to attend the World Trade Organization’s Public Forum
A delegation from the Senate of Pakistan led by Leader of the House, Senator Ishaq Dar, comprising Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, Senator Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah and Senator Kamran Murtaza is visiting Geneva to attend the World Trade Organization’s Public Forum at the invitation of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The delegation held a meeting with the Director General International Labour Organization (ILO) and former Prime Minister of Togo Mr Gilbert F. Houngbo at the ILO Headquarters, Geneva. Director General Huongbo appreciated the active engagement of Pakistan with ILO and thanked the delegation for the opportunity to have a candid dialogue with him and his colleagues. He also shared that the current work programme being carried out by the ILO Country Office in Pakistan aims at extending and enhancing technical and advisory support to Pakistan to strengthen its compliance with ILO standards. On behalf of the visiting delegation, Senator Ishaq Dar appreciated the support extended by ILO, in particular in the post-flood period. The delegation apprised DG ILO of their keenness to promote greater social justice in the country by improving labor standards and enhancing employability prospects through collaborative efforts by all national stakeholders. The history and current status of social safety net working in Pakistan was also explained by Senator Dar to the DG ILO. In addition to participation in the Public Forum, the delegation is scheduled to meet several high-level officials of important international organizations based in Geneva.
