An important meeting of the Election Commission was held today under the chairmanship of the Chief Election Commissioner Mr. Sikandar Sultan Raja. Apart from honorable members of Election Commission, senior officers of Election Commission participated in the meeting.
In the meeting, the election was told that Quetta district is the only district in which the election has not been held yet due to which the government of Balochistan has not formed towns. In this regard, the Election Commission was also informed that the Balochistan High Court had ordered the Secretary, Local Government Department Balochistan on 23 October 2022 to issue a notification for the formation of towns in Quetta district under the Balochistan Local Government Act. However, despite the passage of five months, the Balochistan Government has not provided the relevant notification and other necessary documents (required for delimitation) to the Election Commission, due to which the delimitation and election of Quetta district have not yet been completed. Although the Election Commission completed the delimitation of Quetta twice, but due to the above mentioned reasons and the lack of interest of the provincial government, it was not possible to hold the election. What is to be done so that the matter is heard and constituencies of Quetta district and holding of elections are ensured.
