Iran pursues intensive diplomacy through Pakistan, Qatar as Trump renews military threats

ISLAMABAD, 02 November, 2026 (Ghufran): Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said Tehran is engaged in intensive diplomatic contacts through Pakistani and Qatari mediators to find a diplomatic solution to tensions with the United States, while warning that any renewed military aggression would invite a stronger response. Speaking to Iran’s state news agency IRNA after visiting Turkmenistan, Araghchi said dozens of telephone calls and extensive diplomatic exchanges were underway, adding that Iran had presented its proposed plan and conditions and the next move depended on Washington’s willingness to pursue diplomacy. He said Tehran was prepared for both diplomatic and military scenarios and would not bow to pressure, while the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the full resumption of negotiations depended on the acceptance of Iran’s conditions. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump renewed his threat of military action against Iran, saying Washington might have to “give them the hammer,” although he also expressed a desire to avoid further casualties. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said communication with the United States was continuing through mediators and that a draft proposal was being circulated for feedback, with another meeting possible. The diplomatic efforts come amid heightened tensions over the US naval blockade and security in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. Separately, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) centre reported that a merchant vessel had allegedly been struck by an unidentified projectile in the Strait of Hormuz on November 1. The agency advised ships to transit with caution and report suspicious activity, while investigations into the incident continued. No details were immediately available regarding the vessel’s identity, possible casualties or the extent of damage.
