PM Shehbaz, JI Chief to Discuss Petroleum Levy, Fuel Price Relief

Islamabad, 27 October, 2026 (Kamran Raja): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to meet Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad on Tuesday to discuss the abolition of the petroleum levy and possible relief in fuel prices. According to sources, Jamaat-e-Islami Deputy Emir Liaquat Baloch and other members of the party’s negotiating team are also expected to attend the meeting. Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Ali Pervaiz Malik and Prime Minister’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah are likewise expected to participate in the discussions. The talks are expected to focus on the petroleum levy imposed on petroleum products, rising fuel costs and potential measures to provide relief to consumers. The meeting comes after Jamaat-e-Islami announced plans for a long march against the petroleum levy. The party subsequently postponed its planned protest after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif contacted its leadership and invited them for negotiations.
