German Climber Dies After Falling from Nepal’s Ama Dablam Mountain

KATHMANDU, 26 October, 2026 (Kamran Raja): A German mountaineer has died after falling while descending from the summit of Ama Dablam, a popular Himalayan peak in northeastern Nepal, a local trekking company official said on Monday. The climber had reached the 6,814-metre (22,256-foot) summit on Sunday but fell approximately 1,500 metres (4,920 feet) during his descent and died on Monday, according to Gokul Thapa, head of Real Himalaya Pvt Ltd, which had provided local logistical support to the climber. Thapa told Reuters from Lukla, a gateway to Nepal’s mountainous region, that a search team recovered the climber’s body on Monday. He said the body had been retrieved from the mountain and would be transported by helicopter to a hospital in Kathmandu for a post-mortem examination. Ama Dablam, located in Solukhumbu district, is a popular destination for mountaineers and lies in the region that is also home to Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak. The incident comes a week after two Japanese climbers died on another mountain in western Nepal. More than 300 mountaineers have received permits to climb Ama Dablam during Nepal’s current autumn climbing season, which runs from September to November.
