Tehran, 20 October, 2026 (Kamran Raja): Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir met senior Iranian officials on Tuesday as Pakistan continued its diplomatic efforts to end the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran. Pakistan has been playing a key mediating role between the two countries, with earlier efforts leading to an interim peace agreement signed in June. However, the Islamabad Memorandum subsequently faltered following renewed fighting between Washington and Tehran. According to Iranian media reports, Field Marshal Munir met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei to discuss mediation efforts and regional developments. During his meeting with Munir, Rezaei said Iran would not transfer any of its enriched nuclear material abroad, describing it as a national treasure and a major asset of the Iranian people intended for use within the country. He stressed that Iranian officials and the public remained united in their position that negotiations would not proceed until the United States took steps to restore trust. Rezaei said Washington must fulfil Iran’s conditions as the first step towards building confidence, while highlighting the close relations between the peoples of Iran and Pakistan. Field Marshal Munir also met Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf in Tehran to discuss the conflict. Ghalibaf said the United States could not gain Iran’s trust without implementing the seven conditions Tehran had presented in New York, adding that Iran had no new position to offer on the matter.
