Israeli Forces Arrest Palestinian Man After Shooting Him in West Bank Raid

West Bank, 15 October 2026 (Kamran Raja): Israeli forces shot and arrested a Palestinian man during a raid in the northern occupied West Bank on Wednesday after pursuing him since 2017, according to a local prisoners’ rights official. Samer Bani Odeh, in his 40s, was shot in the hand when Israeli special forces raided his home and the homes of his brothers in Tammun, southeast of Tubas. Earlier, Israeli forces detained one of his brothers in an attempt to pressure him to surrender, releasing him several hours later. Bani Odeh had previously spent two years in Israeli prisons during the Second Intifada, while his family has faced repeated raids and arrests over the years. Separately, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported that a 21-year-old Palestinian man was hospitalised after being beaten by Israeli forces at the Al-Murabba checkpoint west of Nablus. Meanwhile, a report by Israel’s Haaretz newspaper said Israeli prison guards had fired rubber bullets at Palestinian prisoners, causing severe injuries, including one case that required the surgical removal of a testicle and another involving a fractured shin.

According to Physicians for Human Rights Israel and the Public Committee Against Torture in Israel, 21 shooting incidents were documented across five Israeli prisons since October 2023. The rights groups said the incidents occurred inside cells, in prison yards and in areas where prisoners waited to meet lawyers, with many reportedly taking place at close range and without prior unrest. In a separate development, dozens of ultra-Orthodox Jewish protesters opposed to military conscription stormed a building housing an Israeli military training programme in Bnei Brak, east of Tel Aviv, on Wednesday. Israeli media reported clashes between protesters and police, with two demonstrators arrested. The building houses the Kodkod programme, which trains ultra-Orthodox Jews for software development and cybersecurity roles in the military. The incident marked the third attempt to storm the building in a week, amid continuing tensions over the conscription of ultra-Orthodox Jews, many of whom oppose military service in favour of religious study despite a June 2024 Supreme Court ruling requiring their enlistment.
