Roma Riaz Defends Durefishan Saleem Against Body-Shaming Over Her Role in Dar-e-Nijaat

ISLAMABAD, 14 October, 2026 (Nosheen): Former Miss Universe Pakistan Roma Riaz has spoken out in support of actress Durefishan Saleem, criticising social media users for focusing on the actor’s physical appearance rather than appreciating her performance in the drama serial Dar-e-Nijaat. Saleem has received widespread praise for her portrayal of Zaryab, but recently faced online trolling over the appearance of her arms after wearing a sleeveless outfit in the drama’s 20th episode. Responding to the criticism in an Instagram story, Riaz expressed disappointment over the way women are subjected to body-shaming and judged by their looks instead of their talent and hard work. She said it was heartbreaking to see a talented actress reduced to discussions about her physical features rather than her acting abilities. Riaz also highlighted the contradiction between calls for women’s empowerment and the tendency to criticise other women’s bodies. She stressed that society’s unrealistic beauty standards create unnecessary pressure, insecurity and anxiety, particularly among young girls. Riaz expressed hope that future generations would learn to recognise their worth without measuring themselves against society’s expectations of physical appearance. Durefishan Saleem has previously spoken about experiencing body-shaming, highlighting a wider issue within the entertainment industry, where female performers are often judged against unrealistic standards of beauty. Riaz’s statement has renewed attention to the importance of promoting empathy, respecting women’s individuality and celebrating talent rather than focusing on physical appearance.
