Washington, 6 October, 2026 (Nosheen): US President Donald Trump’s approval rating has remained at a record low of 32 percent, while support among Hispanic voters for his presidency and the Republican Party has declined sharply ahead of the November 3 midterm elections, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll completed on Monday. The six-day nationwide survey found that Trump’s approval rating was unchanged from September, when it reached the lowest level of his political career. Only 24 percent of Hispanic Americans approved of his performance, marking the lowest level of support among this group during either of his two presidential terms. Hispanic voters, who played a significant role in Trump’s 2024 election victory, are increasingly turning away from Republicans amid concerns over inflation and the rising cost of living. The poll showed that registered voters preferred Democrats over Republicans by 44 percent to 37 percent. Among independent voters, Democrats held a lead of 37 percent to 21 percent, while 28 percent remained undecided. Only 26 percent of Hispanic registered voters said they planned to vote Republican, compared with 52 percent who intended to support Democrats, representing the largest Democratic advantage among Hispanic voters since Trump took office. Republicans are facing mounting concerns ahead of the congressional elections, with analysts increasingly predicting that Democrats could regain control of the House of Representatives, while the Senate race is also becoming more competitive. The cost of living emerged as the leading concern for American voters, as rising gasoline and diesel prices and inflation intensified economic pressures. Republican support among voters aged 50 and above has also weakened, with the party leading Democrats by only two percentage points, compared with an eight-point advantage in December. Among voters under 50, Democrats held an 18-point lead. The online nationwide survey interviewed 4,506 US adults and had a margin of error of approximately two percentage points.
