ISLAMABAD, 1 October, 2026 (Kamran Raja): National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss the possibility of imposing emergency or governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). According to sources, the meeting covered key constitutional, legal and parliamentary matters related to the province. The NA speaker briefed the prime minister on his recent contacts with opposition leaders and shared details of his meeting with a delegation of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). The two sides also discussed the convening of the next National Assembly session and the parliamentary situation following recent developments in KP. Sources said the federal government is considering various options and may take a decision after further consultations with political stakeholders. However, no formal decision regarding emergency or governor’s rule had been announced at the time of the meeting.
