Islamabad, 25 September, 2026 (Ghufran): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and possible flash floods in upper parts of the country from September 25 to September 30. According to the NDMA, the intensity of a westerly weather system is expected to increase on September 25 and 26, bringing rain and thunderstorms to upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Islamabad. The authority warned of possible flash flooding in mountainous areas, streams and seasonal waterways, with Astore, Skardu, Roundu, Ghanche and Shigar in Gilgit-Baltistan, as well as Neelum Valley, Haveli, Poonch and Sudhanoti in Azad Kashmir, identified as vulnerable areas. Swat, Bajaur, Dir, Kohistan, Battagram and Mansehra in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may also face flood-related risks. Heavy thunderstorms are expected in parts of Potohar, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa until September 30, with hailstorms possible at some locations. The NDMA has directed relevant departments to complete advance preparations, keep emergency response teams and necessary resources ready, and continuously monitor rainfall and the situation in streams and waterways.
