LONDON, 18 September 2026 (Ghufran): The United States has granted visas to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to attend next week’s United Nations General Assembly in New York, according to reports. A US State Department spokesperson confirmed that Iran’s core delegation would be allowed to attend the General Assembly’s high-level week in line with Washington’s obligations as the host country. The delegation will face restrictions on movement and the purchase of certain luxury and other goods, while the Iranian delegation will also be smaller than last year’s. Pezeshkian and Araghchi are expected to travel to New York as the UN General Assembly convenes amid the ongoing US-Iran conflict, which has heightened regional tensions and disrupted global energy markets. Pezeshkian is expected to address the General Assembly on Wednesday, providing Tehran with an international platform to present its position on the conflict and its relations with the United States and Israel. Foreign Minister Araghchi is also expected to hold diplomatic meetings with senior officials on the sidelines of the gathering. The visa decision comes amid continued diplomatic efforts to address the conflict and growing tensions across the region and strategic waterways.
