JEDDAH, 17 September, 2026 (Nosheen): Passengers of a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight arriving in Jeddah from Karachi were evacuated after ground staff reported a suspected fire in one of the aircraft’s engines while the plane was parked at the Jeddah airport stand. According to sources, the pilot initiated the emergency evacuation procedure and passengers were safely evacuated through emergency exits using evacuation slides, while some passengers were taken to the Jeddah airport clinic for medical examination. Fire department officials also reached the aircraft with fire brigade personnel, while PIA Jeddah authorities immediately informed airport officials and the security department. A PIA spokesperson said the aircraft had landed normally and was parked at the jetty when ground staff reported a suspected fire in one engine, prompting the pilot to open the emergency slides in accordance with standard operating procedures. Some passengers exited through the jet bridge while the remaining passengers were evacuated through the emergency slides. The spokesperson said no passenger was injured and all passengers remained safe. Following a detailed inspection of the aircraft, the suspected fire was found to be unfounded. As a result, the affected aircraft’s Jeddah-Lahore flight was delayed by around 20 to 22 hours, with 40 passengers accommodated at a hotel while the remaining passengers returned home.
