Karachi, 2 September, 2026: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Karachi, in a successful joint intelligence-based operation conducted in collaboration with the Federal Civil Intelligence Agency, has arrested two key terrorists affiliated with the Mufti Saad group of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also referred to by authorities as Fitna-ul-Khawarij. The arrested suspects have been identified as Umar Farooq, son of Hassan Gul, and Abdullah, son of Mumtaz Ali. Two hand grenades were also recovered from their possession during the operation. According to the CTD Karachi spokesperson, initial investigations revealed that the suspects belonged to the Mufti Saad group of the banned TTP and had travelled to Karachi from Afghanistan on the instructions of their commander. They were allegedly assigned various responsibilities related to terrorist activities in the city. Investigators further revealed that the arrested suspects were conducting reconnaissance of important Rangers and police positions and officers and were allegedly sharing the collected information with their commander.
During interrogation, it was also disclosed that the hand grenades recovered from the suspects were to be handed over to another associate of the group on the instructions of their commander. The associate was allegedly planning to use the explosives against important installations. The CTD Operation Karachi Police Station has registered the following cases against the arrested suspects:Case Charge No. 81/2026 under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), 1997, read with Sections 4/5 of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908.Case Charge No. 82/2026 under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), 1997, read with Sections 4/5 of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908. The CTD spokesperson said that further investigation is underway, while special teams have been formed in coordination with other law-enforcement agencies to trace and arrest the suspects’ accomplices. The department expects further important revelations and additional arrests as the investigation progresses.
