Roger Federer Gets Emotional as Tennis Legend Enters Hall of Fame

ZURICH, 30 August 2026 (News Desk): Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer became emotional and broke down in tears during his induction ceremony into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Federer’s wife, Mirka, introduced him at the ceremony. As he walked onto the stage, Federer embraced and kissed her before beginning his speech. During his nearly 30-minute address, the former world No. 1 struggled to contain his emotions on several occasions. Reflecting on his illustrious career, Federer recalled his childhood hero, Stefan Edberg, and described his tears as “tears of joy.” Federer also became emotional while speaking about his longtime coach Severin Lüthi and his wife, Mirka, acknowledging the important role they played throughout his career. While thanking his wife, Federer jokingly remarked that he needed “everything from tissues to sunglasses” to keep his emotions under control. Federer was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in recognition of his remarkable career, which included a record 20 Grand Slam singles titles at the time of his retirement. The Swiss great won Wimbledon eight times, the Australian Open six times and the French Open once. He also captured the French Open title in 2009 to complete his career Grand Slam. Federer is one of only eight men in tennis history to win all four major singles tournaments, cementing his status as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport.
