SINGAPORE, 29 August, 2026 (News Desk): The High Commission of Pakistan in Singapore hosted a special screening of the acclaimed Pakistani film The Legend of Maula Jatt as part of celebrations marking 60 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Singapore. Directed by Bilal Lashari and featuring leading Pakistani actors Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan and Hamza Ali Abbasi, the film is regarded as a landmark production of contemporary Pakistani cinema and has received international recognition. Set against the rich cultural backdrop of Punjab, The Legend of Maula Jatt explores universal themes of honour, courage, loyalty, justice and rivalry while showcasing Pakistan’s cultural heritage, storytelling traditions, music, costumes and cinematic talent Welcoming guests at the screening, High Commissioner Rabia Shafiq highlighted the importance of cinema as a powerful tool of cultural diplomacy and people-to-people understanding. She said films provide an effective and engaging way for countries to share their heritage, traditions and contemporary identity with international audiences.The High Commissioner noted that The Legend of Maula Jatt presents a distinctly Pakistani story through a modern cinematic approach and has attracted audiences well beyond Pakistan. She said the Pakistan High Commission was making efforts to familiarize Singaporeans with Pakistan’s culture, society and storytelling traditions, adding that films provide an effective platform for promoting greater cultural understanding between the two countries.Last year, the Pakistan High Commission also hosted a special screening of the Pakistani film Nayab in Singapore. The audience warmly appreciated The Legend of Maula Jatt, particularly its powerful performances, striking visuals and music. Guests praised the film’s production quality and engaging storytelling and expressed appreciation for the opportunity to experience an important work of Pakistani cinema. The event was attended by diplomats, government officials, members of the business community, media representatives and members of the Pakistani diaspora.The screening formed part of a broader series of activities commemorating six decades of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Singapore, highlighting the importance of cultural exchanges in strengthening ties and promoting greater people-to-people connections.
