SAN FRANCISCO, 29 August, 2026 — News Desk: A U.S. federal judge has ruled that parts of the Trump administration’s efforts to revoke visas and deport noncitizen college students over pro-Palestinian advocacy are unconstitutional. U.S. District Judge Noel Wise said targeting people for protected speech, including criticism of Israel and support for Palestine, violated constitutional free-speech protections. The ruling came in a lawsuit filed by The Stanford Daily, which said some international student journalists had censored their coverage of pro-Palestinian protests and the Middle East conflict because of fears of government retaliation.Judge Wise warned that such policies could create a broader climate of self-censorship and said government punishment for disfavored opinions was inconsistent with the U.S. Constitution.The decision follows a similar ruling by a Boston federal judge last year against the administration’s efforts to deport foreign students and faculty involved in pro-Palestinian activism.
