JUBA, 24 August, 2026 (Kamran Raja): Two United Nations peacekeepers from Ethiopia were killed and seven other people injured in an ambush in South Sudan’s Jonglei State on Monday, the United Nations said. UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said the injured included three UN peacekeepers, two South Sudanese police officers and two civilian staff members. The latest incident brings the number of UN peacekeepers killed in malicious acts while serving in the line of duty to nine since January 1 this year, Dujarric said during a press briefing. The United Nations has called for a thorough and prompt investigation into the attack to ensure that those responsible are identified and brought to justice. Dujarric stressed that attacks against UN peacekeepers may constitute war crimes under international law, underscoring the seriousness of the incident.The UN continues to monitor the security situation in South Sudan and has urged all parties to respect the safety and security of peacekeeping personnel.
