ISLAMABAD, 08 August, 2026 (Ghufran): Russian Ambassador to Pakistan Albert P. Khorev has said that Russia and Pakistan are working to launch their first freight railway routes connecting Moscow with Faisalabad and Karachi in both directions, while the possibility of involving Belarus in the project is also under consideration.Responding to a question about whether Russia and Pakistan were working on a pilot freight railway route along the Minsk–Moscow–Karachi corridor, Ambassador Khorev said the two countries were jointly working on establishing the first freight railway routes along the Moscow–Faisalabad and Moscow–Karachi corridors.
He said the proposed project had been postponed several times due to the escalation of geopolitical tensions in the region during 2025 and early 2026.The Russian ambassador said that the parties were currently finalizing the contract for the provision of services and identifying companies in the countries along the proposed route that were interested in transporting their goods through the planned railway corridors. Ambassador Khorev expressed hope that the necessary arrangements would pave the way for the launch of the freight railway service, which could further strengthen trade and economic connectivity between Russia, Pakistan and other countries along the proposed route.
