United Nations, 27 July 2026(Kamran Raja):Expressing deep concern over the continued escalation of the conflict in Ukraine, Pakistan has warned that attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure are exacting an unacceptable humanitarian toll while undermining global food and energy security, with disproportionate consequences for developing countries.
Addressing the UN Security Council, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, condemned the harm inflicted on civilians, civilian infrastructure and humanitarian actors, and urged all parties to fully comply with their obligations under international humanitarian law.
The Permanent Representative stressed that there is no military solution to the conflict and reiterated that lasting peace can only be achieved through earnest, sustained and meaningful dialogue. He expressed regret that, seventeen months after the adoption of Security Council Resolution 2774, the objectives of ending the conflict and advancing a durable peace remain unfulfilled.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s support for the implementation of Resolution 2774, Ambassador Asim called for an immediate and complete cessation of hostilities to create space for diplomacy and the resumption of negotiations. He underscored that a mutually acceptable peaceful settlement, consistent with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, the legitimate security interests of all parties and relevant multilateral agreements, remains the only viable path forward.
Pakistan, he affirmed, will continue to support all efforts aimed at achieving a just, comprehensive, durable and peaceful resolution of the conflict.
