IMCTC Participates in UN Counter-Terrorism Week to Strengthen Global Cooperation Against Terrorism

New York, June 30, 2026(Kamran Raja): Under the directives of Saudi Minister of Defense and Chairman of the Council of Defense Ministers of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC), Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, an IMCTC delegation, led by Secretary-General Maj. Gen. Mohammed Al-Moghedi, is participating in UN Counter-Terrorism Week at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Organized by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), the annual forum serves as a leading international platform that brings together UN member states, senior officials, counter-terrorism experts, and international organizations to review the implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and address emerging security challenges and evolving terrorist threats.

Maj. Gen. Al-Moghedi said the IMCTC’s participation reflects the coalition’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation and serving as an active global partner in countering terrorism. He highlighted the coalition’s comprehensive approach, which focuses on four key areas: ideological initiatives, strategic communications, counter-terrorist financing, and military cooperation. He noted that these pillars enable member states to enhance coordination, build capabilities, and exchange regional expertise in addressing shared security challenges. On the sidelines of the forum, Maj. Gen. Al-Moghedi held a series of bilateral meetings aimed at expanding institutional cooperation and strengthening partnerships in the global fight against terrorism. Discussions were held with Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil, Acting United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism Alexandre Zuev, and Director of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Centre Mauro Miedico.

The meetings focused on enhancing collaboration between the IMCTC and United Nations counter-terrorism institutions, promoting the exchange of expertise, and supporting joint initiatives to improve international efforts in preventing and combating terrorism and violent extremism. The IMCTC’s participation in UN Counter-Terrorism Week reaffirms Saudi Arabia’s commitment to international security cooperation and its continued support for collective global efforts to promote peace, stability, and effective counter-terrorism partnerships.
