Islamabad, 06 May 2026(Kamran Raja):The 9th Meeting of the Senate of COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) was held on May 6, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the CUI Campus, Park Road, Islamabad. The meeting was chaired by the Honorable Federal Minister for Science and Technology/Pro-Chancellor-I, CUI, Khalid Hussain Magsi, on behalf of the Honorable President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
The Senate deliberated on a comprehensive agenda covering a wide range of academic, administrative, financial, and policy matters, aimed at strengthening institutional human resource management and career progression mechanisms. The Senate of CUI also deliberated on strategic directions for investment and the introduction of Open and Distance Learning programs aimed at skill development. Further discussions were held on institutional reforms and provisions for electronic voting in statutory bodies.
Financial and administrative matters were also addressed, including revisions in daily wage rates, scholarship regulations, and welfare measures for employees and their families. The Senate further approved recommendations related to the appointment of key university officials, as well as decisions of the Selection Board, including appointments and promotions of Campus Directors, Principal Officers, and faculty and non-faculty employees. Approval was also granted for the affiliation of new institutions. The Federal Minister for Science and Technology stressed the need to strengthen Senate sub-committees with the support of statutory fora.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the Senate’s commitment to academic excellence, transparency, and institutional development, in line with the vision of CUI to emerge as a leading center of higher education and research.
