Islamabad, 09 March 2026(Ghufran): Pakistan Navy has launched Operation “Muhafiz-ul-Bahr” in response to the evolving regional maritime security environment and potential threats to critical sea lanes. The operation aims to safeguard national shipping, ensure the uninterrupted flow of energy supplies, and protect the Sea Lines of Communication (SLOCs). Under the operation, Pakistan Navy has initiated escort missions for merchant vessels in close coordination with the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC). The Navy is actively monitoring and regulating the movement of commercial shipping to ensure their safe and secure transit through vital maritime routes.
As nearly 90 percent of Pakistan’s trade is conducted through sea routes, the initiative is designed to maintain the safety and continuity of maritime trade and strategic supply lines. At present, Pakistan Navy ships are escorting two merchant vessels, one of which is expected to arrive at Karachi today. Pakistan Navy remains fully vigilant regarding the prevailing maritime situation and stands prepared to effectively respond to emerging maritime security challenges. The Navy reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the protection of national shipping interests and contributing to regional maritime security.
