Saudi Conjoined Twins Programme Marks World Conjoined Twins Day with 35 Years of Global Medical Achievements

Riyadh, November 24, 2025(Kamran Raja): The Saudi Conjoined Twins Programme, operating under the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), stands as a testament to the humanitarian commitment and medical excellence of the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The program continues to exemplify the Kingdom’s pioneering initiatives in specialized healthcare.

On World Conjoined Twins Day, celebrated annually on November 24, KSrelief highlights the remarkable accomplishments of its multidisciplinary medical team. Established in 1990, the Saudi Conjoined Twins Programme has evolved into a world-leading model in the separation and care of conjoined twins, offering hope to families facing rare and complex medical conditions. Through meticulous planning and exceptional medical expertise, the program has transformed challenging beginnings into inspiring journeys of recovery and resilience.

The initiative bears all costs associated with separation surgeries, treatment, and rehabilitation, including transportation and accommodation for the families, creating a supportive environment that ensures comprehensive care. Over the past 35 years, the program has successfully conducted 67 separation surgeries and evaluated 152 cases from 28 countries, benefiting children and families across the globe. Its efforts are supported by multiple national entities, including the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the King Abdullah Specialized Children’s Hospital.

In November 2024, KSrelief hosted an international conference to commemorate the program’s achievements and to mark World Conjoined Twins Day. The event convened global experts and resulted in agreements aimed at providing sustained healthcare and education services for separated conjoined twins within their home countries. These agreements ensure continued access to health, educational, and social support tailored to the individual needs of the twins.

KSrelief has also formalized several cooperation programs focused on long-term care for conjoined twins. These include the creation of a comprehensive database and information bank to support continuous monitoring and service integration — a significant milestone in enhancing and expanding the program’s capabilities.

Further strengthening its global reach, the center has established collaboration initiatives with Imperial College London and Great Ormond Street Hospital, advancing research and clinical studies related to conjoined twins.

To facilitate broader access to information, KSrelief has launched a dedicated website for the Saudi Conjoined Twins Programme, featuring details about the medical team, video archives of key achievements, links to KSrelief platforms, and direct contact information.
