Pakistan Calls for Urgent Action to End Humanitarian Catastrophe in Palestine at High-Level UN Meeting

Deputy Prime Minister & Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar Urges Urgent Action for Ceasefire and Justice in Palestine at UN Security Council

New York, 23 September 2025(Kamran Raja): Speaking at a high-level meeting convened at the United Nations, Pakistan called for urgent international action to address the unprecedented humanitarian crisis in Palestine, particularly Gaza, where tens of thousands of civilians have lost their lives and famine has gripped the population.

The statement delivered on behalf of Pakistan expressed deep gratitude to UN Secretary-General António Guterres for his continued advocacy for peace and compassion for the Palestinian people.

Highlighting the catastrophic conditions in Gaza, Pakistan stressed that over 64,000 lives have been lost and entire neighborhoods, hospitals, schools, and essential infrastructure have been destroyed. The statement underlined that famine is already a reality in Gaza City, with more than half a million people at grave risk, while famine looms in Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah.

The representative drew attention to the relentless military operations displacing nearly one million people, and condemned the expansion of illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank, including the latest “E-1” plan, terming it a flagrant violation of international law and a grave blow to the two-state solution.

Pakistan called for the following urgent measures, An immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire, Full humanitarian access to Gaza and lifting of the blockade, An end to forced displacement of Palestinians, upholding the right of return, and establishment of an international protection mechanism.

Reaffirming its unwavering support for the Palestinian people, Pakistan reiterated its position in favor of a sovereign, independent, and contiguous Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

Pakistan welcomed the France–Saudi Arabia initiative to convene a Two-State Solution Conference, as well as the growing number of Member States recognizing the State of Palestine. Pakistan recalled its own recognition of Palestine in 1988 and urged that this positive momentum be carried forward with determination and seriousness of purpose.

Concluding its statement, Pakistan underscored that the crisis in Palestine is a “graveyard for humanity and global conscience” and urged the UN Security Council and the broader international community to move beyond words to decisive action, ensuring dignity, accountability, and justice for the Palestinian people.
