Washington, 21 September, 2026 (Ghufran): Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit the United States from September 23 to 25 for talks with US President Donald Trump, Beijing confirmed on Monday. According to a Chinese government statement, Xi will hold discussions with Trump on major issues concerning China-US relations, world peace and development. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said Beijing would work with Washington to strengthen dialogue and cooperation, promote strategic stability and properly manage differences between the two countries. A US official confirmed that Trump will personally welcome Xi at Joint Base Andrews on Wednesday before the two leaders hold meetings the following day. The talks are expected to cover trade, technology and broader strategic issues, including tensions over Taiwan. The two countries have maintained a tariff truce for nearly a year but have yet to reach a lasting trade agreement. China’s Vice Premier He Lifeng, Beijing’s top trade negotiator, is also in the United States for talks with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. The two officials discussed establishing a communication channel on artificial intelligence concerns during a meeting on Sunday. Regional issues, including the US conflict with Iran and China’s relations with Tehran, are also expected to form part of the broader discussions.
