DUBAI, 6 September, 2026 (Nosheen): Pakistan women’s cricket team head coach Wahab Riaz has expressed confidence in the team’s ability to win the ACC Women’s Asia Cup despite a heavy defeat against arch-rivals India. Pakistan suffered a disappointing loss to India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, being bowled out for their lowest-ever T20I total of 55 runs. After opting to bat first, Fatima Sana-led Pakistan made a promising start with a 27-run opening partnership but then suffered a dramatic batting collapse. The Green Shirts lost six wickets for just eight runs and were reduced to 35 for six. Muneeba Ali scored 13 runs while Shawaal Zulfiqar contributed 14, with Pakistan eventually dismissed inside 18 overs. India comfortably chased down the target in just 8.4 overs, losing three wickets. The Indian team had already secured a place in the semi-finals after defeating Hong Kong. Speaking after the match, Wahab Riaz said Pakistan would analyze their mistakes and ensure they do not repeat them in the upcoming match against Hong Kong. “I believe that all the players in our team are very skillful, and they just need to trust themselves. Our next match is against Hong Kong. We will go back and discuss what we did wrong against India. We won’t commit the same mistakes,” Wahab said. Despite the comprehensive defeat, the head coach remained optimistic about Pakistan’s chances of winning the tournament. “I still believe Pakistan is the best side in this Asia Cup to lift the trophy because the conditions really suit us,” he added. Pakistan will face Hong Kong on September 7 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, with a victory crucial to their hopes of reaching the semi-finals.
