London, 12 October, 2026 (Nosheen): British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has said he will publish details of his dealings with Manchester City following criticism from opposition politicians over his response to a ruling that found the football club guilty of serious breaches of the Premier League’s financial regulations. Manchester City has appealed the independent commission’s ruling earlier this month, seeking to overturn the verdict and avoid potentially severe sanctions. The Premier League alleged that the club used “sham” commercial contracts to inflate revenues and understate costs by more than £900 million. Manchester City has denied wrongdoing throughout the case and described the commission’s findings as containing “clear material errors.” The Liberal Democrats recently urged Burnham to disclose any meetings he had held with Manchester City’s owners, representatives from Abu Dhabi or related entities. Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch has also called on the government to release details of meetings between Burnham and senior club officials. Speaking on the podcast “The Rest Is Politics,” Burnham said he was willing to publish details of his meetings and activities involving the club during his previous role as Mayor of Greater Manchester. Burnham, who served as mayor from May 2017 to June 2026, said his contacts with the club were not recent and that he had held only one significant meeting with its representatives, in 2021. In September, Burnham expressed concern that Manchester City’s owners might sell the club following the guilty verdict, describing them as major partners in the development of modern Manchester and in transforming the club into a global force.
